A circular walk from Charing Cross Station (mainline & tube) 2 miles or Piccadilly Circus (Piccadilly & Bakerloo lines) 1 miles.
From Charing Cross make your
way to the north (pedestrianised) side of Trafalgar Square
The Christmas tree is a gift from Norway for our help during
WWII.
Go along Pall Mall, crosing
Haymarket. Right through the Royal Opera House Arcade then left
at Charles II Street. Cross and go right along Regent Street.
Left along Jermyn Street. Join the walk here from Piccadilly
Circus
Shops of interest include Paxton & Whitfield,
cheesemongers and Floris perfumery. St James's Church was built
by Wren in 1676-84 and commissioned by Henry Jermyn
Right through Prince's
Arcade of the 1880s and left along Piccadilly
Hatchards and Fortnum & Mason Store
Left at Duke Street, right
at Jermyn Street then right through the Piccadilly Arcade. Cross
Piccadilly to the Burlington Arcade and walk through.
Built in 1819 London's
longest arcade is patrolled by uniformed beadles to ensure its
regulations are adhered to.
Left at Burlington Gardens.
Detour left along Old Bond Street to view the Royal Arcade of
1880. Return and continue north along New Bond Street
This street has expensive
shops.
Right along Maddox Street,
passing the church of St George's Hanover Square. Cross Regent
Street into Great Marlborough Street.
Libertys shop was designed by ET & ES Hall in 1922-3.
The timber framed building utilised timbers from two warships.
The roofing tiles are hand made and the windows leaded with
stained glass panels. There is a clock depicting George and the
Dragon, a carved coat of arms and a weathervane modelled on the
Mayflower ship.
Past the shop go right through to Carnaby Street and walk along. Right into Kingly Court. Exit to the left into Beak Street and go right. Left along Regent Street then left along Glasshouse Street to Piccadilly Circus (tube station).
To continue the walk go along Coventry Street into Leicester Square. Exit at the SE corner into Irving Street. Go right along St Martin's Place back to Trafalgar Square and Charing Cross Stations.
